Battlestar Galactica

Ever wanted the Arrow of Athena or maybe Adama's lighter?

There will be an auction of Battlestar Galactica (new series, doh!) live set props in Pasadena, California from January 16th through 18th 2009.

Too expensive a geek-out for my taste (I want a Sas Christian giclée in stead), but the timing is just right for Dutch folk, if the rumoured elevation of the dutyfree maximum value of imported goods December 1st 2008 turns out to be true.

The final episodes of Season Four of Battlestar Galactica may air as late as April 2009, according to the show’s star Aaron Douglas at a cast panel discussion Sunday at Dragon*Con 2008.

Douglas, who plays Chief Tyrol, said that the SCI FI network has completely ignored arguably their biggest hit, adding “and the SCI FI Network sucks,” which got a big applause from those in the audience.

“Ten episodes is not a season,” said Douglas, referring to the first half of the season, which aired from April to June 2008. In June 2008, the remaining episodes, which will conclude the storyline for the series, had not yet been scheduled.

Michael Hogan, Richard Hatch, and James Callis seemed to echo their castmate’s feelings. In an earlier panel, Edward James Olmos riffed on the split saying, “... of course they didn’t pay us for five seasons.” Season Four was originally slated for 13 episodes, but was extended to 22 (which included a 2-hour movie).

The series finale is said to be a tear-jerker, according to science adviser/consultant, Kevin Grazier.

“I don’t know anyone who hasn’t cried after reading the final episode script,” Grazier said.

Sorry to spoil the ending of Battlestar Galactica people, but we have found definitive proof that the Cylons are going to be obliterated: as you can see in this video clip, Cylon baseships run Windows. You can check it yourself fast-forwarding to minute 9:26 in episode 7, Guess What's Coming to Dinner. Bill Gates, that's fracking what. And he wants a large clone burger with fries.

From the fabulous Maureen Ryan at the Chicago Tribune:

As Galactica Sitrep noted Thursday, an internet radio show, The Doctor and Mrs. Who, reported last night that up to three “Battlestar Galactica” TV movies may get made later this year. Several sources at the show confirm that those films are indeed being discussed right now.

Executives are now doing number-crunching for these proposed films, and any deals for these movies are far from done. However, it would make sense to make more “Battlestar” TV movies while the show’s creative team and actors are still all in one place, as it were.

Ryan further notes that series mastermind Ron Moore is currently writing the series finale, that as many as three movies could be made, and if the movies do get made they'll get made this summer.

I’m guessing the plan being bandied about is to air the movies this autumn, before the final 10 episodes of the series finally hit NBC-Universal’s SciFi Channel.

I’m also guessing the TV-movies will, like “Razor” and the soon-to-shoot Cylon-genesis project “Caprica,” serve as prequels to the current season-four storylines. Moore has, in a David Chase-like manner, repeatedly rejected the notion of continuing the “Galactica” story beyond its coming series finale.

Ryan's story also tells us a new set of webisode shorts will link the first and second halves of season four.

Read all of Ryan’s story on the matter here.

Casting for the Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica is picking up pace. This week we found out who will play Daniel Graystone - creator of the Cylon.

Remember Stoltz from Pulp Fiction?

Considering the new God storyline of the Cylon in BSG... I think that Stoltz/Graystone will have a pivotal role in the final season of BSG too.

Just like Data on Star Trek (and remember Ron Moore steals his best ideas from Trek) - I’d bet the Cylon were created in the image of their creator.

This is a huge tangent from Japanese cars however I was reading a press release on Asimo the robot that Honda built and it got me thinking about Battlestar Galactica. The whole series is based on the number 12. Basically it is because the original series was based on the Mormon faith and the new Battlestar Galactica kept a lot of the original series intact. First let us look at the number twelve in the new series first. For one the human religion in the new series is based on the 12 Lords of Olympus; Zeus, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Asclepius, Athena, Aurora, Hera, Poseidon and two lords that have not been identified as of yet.
